We all want better health and a good level of fitness. But between work, family, social and other responsibilities it isn’t always easy. Fitness and exercise look different to everyone some people like to work out daily and others a few times a week. There’s no right or wrong as long as you are doing something about it. Here are a few easy ways to improve your fitness.

First, you need to find your motivation and what you are wanting to achieve. We all have to start somewhere so if, for example, you want to be able to go up the stairs without losing your breath then set that as your first goal and keep changing this gradually as your fitness starts to improve.

Next is to find something you enjoy doing. Some people enjoy spending hours in the gym whereas others will find this torture. There are plenty of ways you can get fit and it is about finding the one you find the most fun and doing that so that it doesn’t feel like hard work getting fit is then just a bonus of doing that. I love to grab my Babolat tennis racket and head to the courts to burn off some energy whilst having great fun. Doing outdoor activities when the weather is nice can sometimes make it feel a little less like exercise.

You should make sure you track your progress as you go so that you can see how far you have come. Some people get a smartwatch and track their steps or calories burned others like to measure themselves and see a change that way. This will also help with your motivation as when you start to see changes and increased fitness it spurs you on to do it more. 

Finding someone who wants to reach the same goal as you can be beneficial too. If you can start this journey with a friend it is a great way to have someone to motivate you on days you might not feel like it and you will also be able to do the same for them,

You need to have a look at what time you can set aside for your fitness and stick to it. Look at it as a form of self-care and prioritise time for you to be able to do the workout of your choice and before you know it, it will just become a part of your normal routine,

Keep some variety to your workouts, if you stick to the same thing all the time you might find you get bored and give up. Push yourself to try different things and new ways to get fit and that way you might find a new hobby you enjoy and this will help with your goals and motivation. 

It can take a lot of willpower to improve your fitness but by following the above it will soon become as normal and as part of your daily routine as brushing your teeth or walking the dog and you won’t want to miss out. Rest is important but so is the motivation to keep going when you don’t feel like it.
