Having educational activities to entertain children on hand can be very helpful. The school holidays are some of the most exciting times for children as they get a break from early starts and long sessions of learning. However, alongside fun and time spent with family, it is important that your child keeps on top of their education throughout the holidays to prevent falling back. There are many ways to keep your child entertained whilst keeping up with their learning at the same time. Here is some advice from a prep school in Kent on 5 educational activities for children during the school holidays.
- Keep on top of reading. Reading is something that can be done daily such as before
bed and is something that is both entertaining and educational for your child to do.
There are many wonderful books that your child can read throughout the holidays,
especially leading up to Christmas. Check your local library for the most recent
releases and read together with your child. There is no doubt that your child will find
a book that they will enjoy reading. - Celebrate the colder season together. As we escape from summer, we find ourselves
now surrounded by bright coloured leaves and a breeze in the air. This is the perfect
time to spend time outdoors as the air is rich and great for young ones to be in. Go
for regular walks with your child to give them a breath of fresh air and keep their
physical health up. - Create together. The holidays are a great time to decorate the house depending on
preferences. As we are nearing Christmas, it’s a good time to get your child to help
make Christmas cards for friends and family as well as create paintings inspired by
the colourful season. - Experiment with science. Children love experiments so take it upon yourself to take
part in some kitchen chemistry. You can show your child how to make their own ice
cream using a bag, ice and salt. Not only is this a tasty experiment to take part in but
your child will understand the concept of reactions and elements. - Take a trip into the past. Children love to watch movies and TV shows during their
time off school, so why not introduce them to shows that will teach them about
history and be somewhat educational. Not only will they be introduced to different cultures and people, they may show more interest in history than you perceived.
